Making Fast Money

Another issue is the labor strife soon to be coming to an NFL city near you.  If Luck waits, he'll miss out on the last chance to get the kind of payday fellow number one QB's Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford and even JaMarcus Russell have gotten.

An education is great and all, but leaving literally millions of dollars on the table to come back to Stanford and play another year, possibly without his head coach, suggests that maybe Stanford should add a couple critical decision making courses to their curriculum.

And then there's the matter of Panthers' owner Jerry Richardson.  Richardson has been one of the most, if not the most vocal supporter of sticking it to the players in the upcoming labor deal.  What are the chances that Richardson will throw big, guaranteed money at Luck, then turn right around and advocate outlawing throwing big, guaranteed money to rookies?

No, I suspect the suggestions coming from Luck about staying in school are directed at Carolina in an Eli Manning-esque, "I don't want to play for you," type of message.

Either way, this can't be what Panther fans want to see.  There could be a trade in the offing for the top pick, like the one San Diego and New York swung for Manning and Phillip Rivers a few years ago.  If Carolina fans are lucky, things will work out as that one did for the Chargers.  Certainly, Manning did win a Superbowl, but Rivers is clearly a much, much better QB.

And here's one last possibility to ponder:  what if Harbaugh signs on to be the head coach in San Francisco?  The 49ers will likely be picking somewhere in the mid-to late top 10.  If Luck really doesn't want to play for the Panthers, is it possible that his college coach will get his new team, also in desperate need of a QB, to trade up, nab Luck at No.1 and Carolina gets Ryan Mallett in a reasonable draft slot plus a couple extra pics to boot?  Stranger things have happened.

Just, for Panther fans' sake, hope they don't take Newton instead, or we could be having this same discussion next year at this time.

Jesus’s birthday is coming up. And you know what he wants for his birthday? Nothing more than for you lose weight and become more attractive. As C.S. Lovett helpfully explains in his 1979 book, Help Lord … The Devil Wants Me Fat!, there’s a simple way to not be so fat: stop eating. Just completely stop. See, it’s not hunger that causes you to eat delicious holiday treats, it’s Satan.

Maybe that seems extreme to you. What about clean, natural, whole foods in their purest forms? you might ask. I eat a raw, macrobiotic, vegan diet, and I feel fantastic, you say. Yap, yap, yap. All I hear is Satan telling filthy lies.

Not convinced? People who own the book and have followed the instructed fast simply rave about it!

This book has to be one of the greatest books written concerning weight loss and how to tear down strongholds that the enemy has built in one's mind by causing one to overeat. By putting thoughts in one's mind to eat when one is not really hungry, the devil deceives unsuspecting Christians by the bondage caused by overeating and not being able to serve the Lord, as one would if he was in better shape. (I didn't word that right but you will understand what I mean if you will buy the book.) … [A]fter reading the book I fasted for 11 complete days and there was nothing to it.

—Ndubusi, on Amazon

Some readers feel so passionately about how this book has changed their lives that they even blog about it on SparkPeople.

Most do not think of overeating as a sin but it's the devil's way of getting control of otherwise good Christians who would never think of sinning in other ways, to destroy themselves, bite by bite. It really doesn't matter whether we are bound by drugs, sex or money, the chains still chain us. In reality it wouldn't matter if we were bound by rope, iron or real chains, if we're bound, we're bound…When you look at it as a battle with Satan, it perks up your soul and helps you to determine not to let him win anymore.

Lovett and his wife, Linda, who did the book’s illustrations, encourage you to win your battle with the devil by thinking of your brain (soul?) as a computer that you can program with visualization. Like this:

Like any war with dark forces, this one will require constant vigilance. Much like Santa Claus, Lucifer sees you and what you eat not just when you are awake, but even when you are sleeping.

So now our plan is in place. Let’s make Jesus happy and stick to our inevitable New Year’s resolutions. Just remember, if you break this diet, there's more at stake than skinny jeans and self esteem. There is your immortal soul.

Merry Christmas!

Something that everyone could use is a little extra cash, but it's hard to find realistic ways to do this. This advice is not in any way going to get you rich, but it will put some extra cash in your pockets. I also want to send a warning to anyone that is looking to get rich quickly. Do not get involved in get-rich-quick schemes because they're either illegal, or you'll lose a lot of money that is invested.

1. Blogging: I currently make extra money by blogging for associated content. It doesn't get me rich, but I do get some extra money to spend.

2. Sell items on craigslist, or have a yard sale. I prefer craigslist because you can sell items one at a time, and usually get a reasonable payment for what you're selling. If you're like me, then you have plenty of junk around the house that someone else may find to be useful.

3. Do yard work for your neighbors. Mow lawns, rake leaves, trim shrubs, or whatever is needed. Just make sure you
can do a professional job before working in people's yards.

4. Pet/house sit. A lot of people like their pets to stay at home while they're out of town. Boarding facilities keep animals in cages and don't always give them the attention they deserve. Care for and play with the pets, get the mail, turn on lights while you visit.

5. Baby-sitting is an excellent way to make extra money. Play with the children, and make sure you clean up the mess before the parents get home.

6. Drive people to and from the airport. Parking at the airport is costly, and it's nice to be dropped off when you're in a hurry. Make sure you always arrive on time. Know the directions before you go to pick them up.

7. House-hold chores. Your neighbors may need a cleaning service, a cook, or other services. Offer to do this for a competitive price. You can also use a simple sales pitch: 'It's better than having a stranger in your home'.

These are just some examples, and there are many different ways to create extra cash flow. Don't be afraid to get creative. GOOD LUCK!!!
